Victoria Minis Car Club

Rog "The Hat"  -  occasionally known as Roger Wall..

This is one member who lives outside of Victoria - in England.  But Roger is frequently seen at our events, and his enthusiasm and help are appreciated - as are the donations of prizes.

Here is Roger's Hat Story:

It all started when I met Steve Dalton from Australia in 1994 at the IMM Mini 35 at Silverstone. He belonged to the Victoria Mini Club in Melbourne. As I was even then travelling around the world, he asked me if I would be in Melbourne for their Mini Show in December 1995. So I went.

Once there he asked me if I would judge the Concourse. "Only 200 Minis - a piece of cake!"   It took me most of the day.

I had bought, and wore for the judging, a Bush Hat, the photos went back to the Mini Cooper Register Magazine. When I arrived back home in England two months later, Clive Powell one of the Regional members put an advert for the Rog "The Hat" Fan Club in the MCR Magazine. For a membership card the price was 50p.  Fifty people took it up; I could not believe it!

With the money, I decided to make it up to £50 & sponsor two friends Neil Burgess (Rally Driver) & Paul Clark (1.3 Cooper Racing Driver) on the Italian Job Charity Run to Italy.  They put the Hat logo all over the roof of their Mini.  From then on I have been known as Rog "The Hat".

I have found some photos of me the first time I had the hat on at the Mini Meet in  Como Australia.  And one taken At IMM in 2009 with (L to R) Myself, Paddy Hopkirk, and Mike Smith -  is it the same Hat? What do you think?.

 Happy Mini-ing!
